The Tufts Health Plan Foundation’s Mission is to promote healthy lifestyles and the delivery of quality care in our communities.
The foundation’s focus is Healthy Aging – improving the lives of adults 60 and older. Through the programs we fund, we hope to elevate the well-being of older adults so as to enable them to live longer, healthier lives.
Why Healthy Aging?
With the retirement of the baby boom generation and longer life expectancy, the proportion of older adults in the United States is projected to double by 2030, reaching the highest point ever at 20 percent of the population. This aging of the population has strong implications for the nation’s health because older adults tend to have more health care needs and higher utilization rates of health care services. With the onset of aging comes a new set of challenges in order to maintain a healthy body, mind and high quality of life. Given these challenges, older adults also have a multitude of resources to offer society, and in turn, benefit from remaining engaged in the community.
The Tufts Health Plan Foundation has chosen to focus on healthy aging in order to address the needs of our communities and help meet the challenges of an aging society. Through grants in the three areas of Vibrant Lifestyles, Intergenerational Collaboration and Keeping Our Seniors Safe, we hope to elevate the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of older adults; enable them to contribute their experiences and knowledge to their communities; and ultimately help older adults live longer, healthier lives.
