Obtain Initial Visits for a Member New to Treatment

A provider can obtain the initial visits for services by calling the Tufts Health Plan Mental Health Department at 1-800-208-9565 and using the Interactive Voice Response (IVR). See the Guide for Completing Mental Health Care Service Requests Using IVR for Initial Visits. Providers may also speak with a Service Coordinator or log in to the secure Web site.

It is the provider's responsibility for obtaining the necessary reference number for outpatient Mental Health and Substance Abuse services within 30 days of the member's first visit. However, the member or their Primary Care Provider may also contact the Mental Health Department at 1-800-208-9565 to obtain the initial reference number for outpatient services.
