Another Exceptional Elite Field is Expected at the 33rd Running of the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women!
It looks like it could be a repeat battle for the finish at this year's Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women as the top 7 finishers from 2008 are expected to return to the streets of Boston and Cambridge for the 33rd running of this traditional Columbus Day race for women. Returning are 2008 Tufts 10K Champion Molly Huddle, Aziza Aliyu-Abate, Teyba Naser, Amy Rudolph, Renee Metivier-Baillie, Rebecca Donoghue, and Lindsey Anderson. In addition, two-time (2006 & 2007) Tuft Health Plan 10K for Women Champion Katie McGregor as well as Mary Akor, Kassi Andersen, Sara Hall, Victoria Jackson, Lindsey Ellen Scherf, Jennifer Donovan, Cassie Slade, Jill Swope and Alisha Williams are all strong contenders for the total prize purse of $41,150. Internationally, Genoveva Kigen of Kenya as well as Shoko Mori and Korei Omata of Japan are expected to pose strong competition. In the Masters Division, defending Tufts 10K Champion Patty Murray will return to defend her title against tough contenders Joan Benoit Samuelson, Trina Painter and locals Mimi Fallon and Julie Peterson.
Although the race attracts an impressive assembly of elite runners, the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women is also a shining example of a race that unites and empowers women of all athletic abilities in the spirit of healthful living and family fun.
