How Much is that Going to Cost?

As health plans become more complex, it’s important to understand not only how your plan works, but also how much the health care you receive actually costs. Many employers now offer plans with deductibles, coinsurance, as well as copayments, which means more money may be coming out of your pocket to pay for health care expenses.

To help you learn more about the cost of health services, we offer a web-based tool that can help you understand the costs involved in the treatment of specific conditions and/or procedures.

EmpowerMe is our Treatment Cost Estimator available through your secure online account. You can enter your zip code and select the plan design that most closely matches yours, to find the average cost of a number of procedures and treatments in your local area.

EmpowerMe will help you:

  • Estimate the average costs of common conditions and procedures
  • Be aware of in-network versus out-of-network costs

EmpowerMe includes information on 160 disease groups, more than 100 of the most common procedures, and 230 of the most common office visit types. The most common prescription drugs associated with the treatment of the illnesses and conditions are identified, representing over 1,800 prescription drugs.

When applicable, both in-network and out-of-network cost estimates are displayed, based on your location, for:

  • The total cost of care
  • The member’s out-of-pocket cost
  • Tufts Health Plan’s costs

Your actual benefits and out-of-pocket expenses for health care services will depend on factors such as the actual cost of care received, whether the health care provider is in-network or out-of-network, actual terms of your specific benefit plan, and other reimbursement policies.

To access EmpowerMe, log in to mytuftshealthplan.com and click on "Estimate your treatment cost" under “Decision Tools”.
